Mobile Manna Foundation to Host National Colloquium on Mental Health and Development in Uyo

The Mobile Manna Foundation (MMF) will host its 16th National Colloquium on Mental Health and Development alongside its 2026 Foundation Day Celebration on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The event, themed “Lived Experiences to Changing Reality: Legal Framework for Transforming Mental Healthcare in Nigeria,” will bring attention to the need for stronger legal and institutional frameworks to improve mental healthcare delivery in Nigeria. It will also provide a platform for discussions on the experiences of people affected by mental health challenges and practical steps towards improving access to care, protection of rights and social inclusion.

The colloquium will be held under the chairmanship of Distinguished Professor Eniefiok Essien, SAN, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo.

The Special Guest of Honour is Rt. Hon. Uwemedimo Udo, PhD, Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council. The keynote address will be delivered by Hon. Justice Joy Unwana of the High Court of Justice, Uyo, while Professor Aniekan Peter, former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State Branch, will participate as Guest Speaker.

Engr. Ndifreke Ntewo, Project Manager, Wagby Business Solutions & Technologies, is the Principal Donor for the event.

The Foundation expects the gathering to encourage constructive engagement among legal practitioners, healthcare professionals, policymakers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders on ways to strengthen mental health services and improve outcomes for affected individuals and their families.

The event will take place at the NBA Auditorium, NBA Secretariat, Banking Layout, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, commencing at 12 noon.

With its focus on the connection between lived experiences, legal protections and healthcare delivery, the 16th National Colloquium offers an opportunity to advance public understanding of mental health and promote practical action towards a more responsive mental healthcare system in Nigeria.
