Profile of Donatus Pius Ukpong

Donatus Pius Ukpong studied Philosophy in St. Joseph Major Seminary, Ikot Ekpene from 1989-1992. He studied Theology in Pontifical Urban University, Rome from 1993-1998. Fr. Ukpong was ordained in 1998 for the Diocese of Uyo, Nigeria. He obtained a Doctor of Sacred Theology degree from Pontifical Urban University, Rome in 2006. He works with the University of Uyo, where he teaches in the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies. He had served the University community in different capacities, including: Staff Adviser; Examination Officer and Ag. Head of Department and presently as Acting Director, Centre for Deep Dialogue and Critical Thinking. He served as a Visiting Professor to Sapienza University of Rome in 2019. He is the State Chaplain of National Association of Catholic Corps Members, Akwa Ibom State, Promoter of Justice at Calabar Inter-diocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal. Fr. Ukpong served as parish priest in Italy and Nigeria, at the present, St. Peter Parish, Ifa Ikot Obong, Uyo. He founded Mobile Manna Foundation in 2008 on the occasion of his 10th Priestly Ordination Anniversary, for services in mental healthcare sector: awareness, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and re-integration. Fr. Ukpong organizes and hosts, National Colloquium on Mental Health and Development, training sessions for mental health workers in Akwa Ibom State on the use of technology for diagnosis and management of mental health. He supervises Talk Therapy, Counselling Sessions and Spiritual Exercises for mental health patients and recovering drug addicts at Manna Rethink Centre of the Foundation. He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation. He speaks English, Italian, German and Ibibo.
